NUCLEAR AND RELATED ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES
FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AND LIFE SCIENCES -- II
The lecture will cover:
- Activation with neutrons. Decay schemes. Branching ratios. Detection of gamma rays.
- Techniques: sample preparation of standards; reference materials
- Choice of irradiation conditions. Thermal neutron activation. Epithermal neutron activation. Fast neutron activation.
- Analytical investigations at the IBR-2 pulsed fast reactor in Dubna: (i) Environmental applications (air pollution studies using passive and active biomonitoring with moss, lichens and tree bark)); (ii) Biotechnology (new pharmaceuticals and sorbents); Biomedical applications (human hair, blood, bones. In vivo analysis). (iii) Geological applications (soil, sediments, silicate rocks, etc.); (iv) Industrial applications (semiconductors, ceramics, gems, and glasses).
