The Czech Ambassador to France visited the Modane Underground Laboratory (LSM)

On October 9, 2025, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to France, Jaroslav Kurfürst, visited the Modane Underground Laboratory (LSM) to express his support for the activities of Czech scientists working there. He also emphasized the Czech side’s interest in continuing and further expanding their collaboration.

The Czech delegation included Ivan Štekl, Director of the Institute of Experimental and Applied Physics of the Czech Technical University in Prague (IEAP CTU in Prague), along with members of his team participating in the SuperNEMO experiment - Rastislav Hodák, Tomáš Křižák, and Aneta Homolková. The National Radiation Protection Institute (NRPI) was represented by its Director, Aleš Froňka. The LSM management was represented by Silvia Scorza, LSM Scientific Director, and Nadine Sauzet, Project Manager. The Université Grenoble-Alpes, which is the umbrella organization of LSM, was represented by Professors Pierre Beck and Laurent Derome.

During the meeting that followed a tour of the laboratory, Ambassador Jaroslav Kurfürst highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Czech Republic and France in the fields of science, research, and technological development - particularly in the context of European strategic autonomy and technological self-sufficiency. He also stressed the importance of extending this cooperation into the commercial sector through Czech industrial solutions, emphasizing economic sustainability and the link between industry and research.
