Abstract:
Scientific infrastructure creates opportunities for collaboration, learning, and innovation. Understanding these connections is essential for inclusive development.
Understanding the relationship between science, education, and society can inform future approaches to community development and STEM support.
The Karoo region in South Africa hosts world-class astronomy infrastructure like the Square Kilometre Array in Carnarvon and the South African Astronomical Observatory - Sutherland. Many communities continue to face educational and developmental challenges, despite significant scientific activity nearby. How can scientific investment contribute to sustainable and equitable community development?
