Universal radiographic system with high contrast and low dose of ionizing radiation

The project is focused on the commercialization of the system for phase sensitive X-ray radiography developed by the applicant. X-ray phase radiography is a promising imaging technique which allows acquiring high contrast images even for samples which cannot be imaged with sufficient image quality by conventional transmission techniques (e.g. soft tissue and composite materials). This imaging technique is currently being intensively studied and first approaches leading to commercialization have started (e.g. Bruker Micro CT). The applicants have submitted a patent application protecting a newly developed system and they are the sole owners of the technology. The developed technology presents qualitative progress and allows obtaining a higher image quality with much lower radiation dose in comparison to current technology. A considerable larger amount of imaging information is furthermore obtained from a single exposure. This information can be presented via several images depicting different properties of the investigated object. The aim of the project phase “Proof of concept“ is to finalize the technology to the stage of a working prototype/demonstrator. Based on this prototype, imaging performance of the system for specific applications (e.g., composite materials investigation) will be evaluated and technical requirements for its construction will be determined. The range of suitable applications will be updated and the final market will be determined.
