Obsah
The scientific activities of the institute are oriented to both fundamental and applied research and are based on the long–term Research Program “Fundamental Experiments of the Physics of the Microworld”. Many projects are carried out in frame of cooperation with international laboratories to which the Czech Republic is member (CERN, JINR Dubna, ILL Grenoble) as well as universitites and research centers abroad such as PSI Villingen, U. Montreal, NIKHEF Am-sterdam, SLAC Stanford, LAL Orsay, TU Munich. In fundamental research the institute focuses on particle physics (experiment ATLAS at LHC at CERN – semicon-ductor tracker SCT, spin properties of top quark), experi-mental nuclear physics (nuclear structure studies, nuclear spectroscopy, neutron induced and nucleon transfer reac-tions, fission), experimental astro– and non–accelerator physics1 (double beta decay – NEMO and TGV experiments, dark matter – PICASSO experiment neutralino search, cos-mic rays – CZELTA / ALTA / NALTA project). In applied studies, the IEAP concentrates on R&D of semiconductor detectors (new materials – pixel and strip, novel detecting structures, radiation hardness) as well as on the application of semiconductor detectors as particle and radiation sensing devices (X–ray and neutron imaging and tomography) including scintillating devices. Work is de-voted also on neutron shielding (design and Monte–Carlo simulations), neutron activation analysis, alpha spectrometry and radon studies.
