Position sensitive spectroscopy of fission fragments

The projects devotes to:
  • Experimental study of fission fragments and the testing and implementation of advanced pixel detectors for precise position sensitive and energy sensitive fission fragment spectroscopy. The characteristics of the Medipix2 pixel device, such as position– and energy–sensitive detection as well as timing capabilities, allow to carry out precise spectroscopy of light and heavy fission fragments (see Fig.). By the possibility of carrying out measurements of angular distributions and coincidence events, rare phenomena can be experimentally investigated such as ternary and quaternary fission processes.
  • Experimental study of rare fission processes (ternary, quaternay fission)
