ATLAS-Medipix project

Goal of the ATLAS-Medipix project is to map the neutron radiation field in the ATLAS detector during the measurement. Therefore an network of 14 Medipix2 devices controlled by the USB interface is being installed in the various positions of the ATLAS detector. The performance of ATLAS shielding will be checked as well.


Each Medipix2 detector is assembled by two neutron converters:
  • PE foil for conversion of fast neutrons
  • LiF layer for conversion of thermal neutrons


All 14 devices are controlled remotely by the Pixelman software.
