Abstract

The Munich Centre for Advanced Photonics (MAP) investigates and develops next-generation laser-based light and particle sources. One main goal of MAP is the utilisation of laser driven accelerated (LDA) particle beams in radiation therapy. Due to the acceleration mechanisms these particle beams are delivered in short and intense pulses of 107 -109 particles/ns/cm². Quantitative detection in real-time is an essential prerequisite for any application of LDA-particles in radiation therapy but nowadays no detectors are available to fulfil this task. The approach of our group is to investigate the usefulness of pixel detectors as dose monitors for future LDA-particle therapy.
