Following last year’s successful trip of the winners of the Physics Olympiad to JINR Dubna in April, we have been preparing to prepare a similar event this year as well. However, the coronavirus pandemic has forced us to cancel these plans. We have, therefore, prepared an alternative for the Olympians – an internship in IEAP CTU. The internship was supported by the HR AWARD project and took place from 7th to 10th of July 2020 in IEAP. There were altogether six attendees, alumni from Liberec, Tabor, Jihlava, Sumperk, Olomouc and Brno High Schools. The students were presented with a well prepared educational program (offered by employees of IEAP and NRPI).

The program consisted of Lectures on Standard Model of elementary particles and Physics Beyond the Standard Model (Presented by K. Smolek), Neutrino Physics (A. Smetana), they took part in exercises – 7 hours of measurements with Pixel Detectors MX-10 (V. Vicha, M. Holik), went on a field trip to see the Van De Graaf accelerator (R. Sykora), took part in a lecture and presentation of the X-Ray imaging with high resolution (J. Dudak, J. Zajicek) and went on another field trip to the The National Radiation Protection Institute (Z. Rozlivka).

From all the questions and comments made by the students during the internship it became obvious that we have invited many talented students interested in physics. The event also aided in the building of well established cooperation between IEAP and Czech High Schools.
